Martha L. Monserrate E'81 G'82
Martha Monserrate is a licensed professional engineer and president and founder of the consulting firm Environmental Excellence Engineering, PC. She is president and founder of the Given Limb Foundation, which supports the development of prosthetics and adaptive devices for amputees. Ms. Monserrate was inspired to start the foundation by her brother-in law, who served in Iraq, and by biomedical engineer and Marine reservist Jon Kuniholm, who was injured in Iraq and now works on prosthetics development.
Ms. Monserrate previously worked as an engineering project manager with CH2M Hill, Inc., and has served on the Conservation Commission/Advisory Council in her hometown of Rye, NY, where she is vice chair of the city's planning commission.
She was a member of the Pratt School of Engineering Board of Visitors at Duke from 2001 to 2009, serving as vice chair in 2008-09.
Ms. Monserrate and her husband, Bart McDade T'81, have two sons: Conor McDade T'13; and Colin McDade.
Elected to the Board of Trustees in 2009, Ms. Monserrate is a member of the Undergraduate Education and Human Resources Committees. She also is a member of the board of the Lord Foundation of North Carolina, which provides financial support to student and faculty projects in the Pratt School of Engineering.
